You are the CEO of your body
I know that I've mentioned a few times that I participate in some book groups with Jamie at Wonderfully Well in Gillette, Wyoming. Many of the books I’ve already read with her have introduced me to another way of thinking about health and fitness—and helped me learn more about Health at Every Size (HAES). But I really have to tell you about a book that we are currently reading: Big Fit Girl: Embrace the Body You Have by Louise Green.
We have only read four chapters of the book, but there is one chapter that I’d simply LOVE if everyone read: Chapter 3: Creating Your Master Team.
According to Green, anyone who enjoys movement should have a team of people who support you, life you up when you need it, and been a great resource. The members on this team are the Trainer, the Tribe and the Support Team. In our discussion last night, I mentioned that the section on the trainer was something I wished everyone knew. From the book, highlighting the section about the Trainer, Green says:
“You are the CEO of your body, and like any CEO, you have the power to allow people into your space or to dismiss them if they’re not doing a good job… Interview people as if the success of your hopes and dreams depends on it—because it does.”
This spoke to me on so many levels.
Not all trainers are for you. Not all clients are for me. But, I sure hope that if you come through my doors, I’ll either be a fit for you, or I’ll help you find someone who will be a good fit.
I want to help you reach your goals; not my goals.
I want to make movement fun and attainable for you.
And, I will NEVER use body-shaming tactics to motivate you.
